The post-COVID-19 scenario has introduced an unparalleled situation within world economies, especially the most open ones. The virus has left a trace of collapsed healthcare systems, economic activity, trade, and tourism huge declines, and therefore rising unemployment, especially among the youth, creating the worst economic crisis since 2008’s shock. As a tourism and services-based economy, the Canary Islands have suffered the consequences of the worst pandemic since 1918’s Influenza in the form of tourism shutdown. Although the national and regional governments have implemented some urgency measures, such as basic income and temporary employment lay-offs, the crisis has highlighted the necessity for its economy to diversify its economic structure.

Human and intellectual capital are the most valuable assets for regions and countries to drive innovation, generate new ideas, and technology-driven business models. Knowledge has proven to be key, so does education. Humboldt Cosmos Multiversity is well aware of it. Since its foundation, in 2012, Humboldt Cosmos Multiversity has put all its efforts into being a knowledge-sharing forum between reputed experts and the people who represent the future of the region: their students. With this in mind, Humboldt Cosmos Multiversity has been promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths (STEAM) vocations among the youth, as the platform to transform the Canary Islands in general, and Tenerife in particular into knowledge-driven economies.

The challenge requires both strong will and consistency from public authorities and the business world as well. But also will require the very best of the Canary Island’s people. Teachers and professors, scientists and researchers, healthcare professionals, farmers, fishermen, and women, services workers and managers, civil servants, and ultimately, politicians.

As a Canary Island’s based institution, and as a Canary Islands established foundation, we, Humboldt Cosmos Multiversity, with the cooperation of FESTO, would like to invite you to participate in our First Winter Innovation Summit, and write your line in our common future as a region, and as people.

Come join us and share your ideas on the islands’ future from science, health, education, technology, digital and green economy. Enter the competition, show how your project would contribute from a STEAM perspective to the Canary Island’s future, and your idea can be awarded with one of our prizes in cash, or win a free FESTO Didactic STEAM kit for your school.
