Kempten University students visit to Humboldt Cosmos Multiversity, November 2018
On November 2018, we welcomed back again to Tenerife a new group of students from Kempten University of Applied Sciences (Bavaria, Germany). In the same line that last year’s stay, the group visited InTech -A Cabildo de Tenerife’s initiative to boost technological entrepreneurship- the Canary Islands Government, and to University of La Laguna, as well. The students closed their stay at Tenerife in a workshop in which Humboldt Cosmos Multiversity took part.
One of the most remarkable results of this visit was a report, The Canary Islands as a Hub to West Africa. Feasibility Study on an Institute for the Industrialization of Africa, conducted by Prof. Dr. Andreas Mueller and Prof. Dr. Katrin Stefan, together with the 21 students of the Global Business Development Master, for FESTO, a global company based in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany. FESTO is an engineering-driven company, producing and selling pneumatic and electrical control and drive technology for factory or process automation.
FESTO Didactic is a division of FESTO, interested in evaluating the the possibilities of establish an Institute for the Industrialization of Africa on Tenerife. Using the students’ impressions on their visit, the report follows the concept of Value Proposition Design with an emphasis on Target Groups and on Value Generation. The Canary Islands situation makes the Archipelago a unique base to launch this kind of initiatives. The Institute could form a community of practice for high-level educational agents,it could focus on targeted programs for specific multipliers, it could also be positioned as a mobile content provider or even a provider of container schools.

The study is only a very first step towards a possible institute and can only strive the complexity of such an endeavor. Yet the results allow for a first reflection based on the views of local Canarian decisionmakers from government, technology development, education, or entrepreneurship.
